Albany

Albany, originally settled by the Mohicans, is the capital of New York State. The city is rich in colonial history dating back to 1609, when Dutch explorer Henry Hudson reached the area on the ship Half Moon. The Dutch influence is evident in place names and architecture throughout the region. I found the city to be very walkable, though climbing State Street can be a challenge. There’s a well-developed bus network, so you can explore Albany without a car. My wife and I faced only one challenge when we visited in August, 2018: Finding somewhere to eat on Sunday – every restaurant was shut! (Maybe because the legislature and the university was in recess?)

The link list below provides a quick guide to the city, but for a deep dive, the draft Albany Historic Preservation Plan (September, 2019) is a tremendous resource.

The table below lists all Albany, NY locations in the KenGrantPhoto archive. You can scroll through the list or use the search bar: type the street address, building name, or keyword/s to find structures. Some buildings may have alternate addresses or names.
